35th Infantry Officer’s Kepi – (4” tall in front). Double piped with gold quatrefoil, this is for a captain. The inside has a complete leather sweatband and black silk lining. The label in the crown is “Jacob Gminder, 105 Calvert St. Baltimore”. He’s first noted at this address in 1865 which means he moved there in 1864. He remained there for several years. The height and materials indicate that this is Civil War and the address makes it late war, either 1864 or 1865. In June of 1865 the market for military supplies collapsed and there would have been no production for 3 to 5 years. In excellent condition with no mothing, this is a great attractive C.W. Kepi.
